Polynucleotides

POLYNUCLEOTIDES

What are Polynucleotides?

Polynucleotides are DNA fractions. sustainably and ethically extracted from either salmon or trout. They enhance skin hydration, have anti-free radical properties and stimulate fibroblast growth which is responsible for generating collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid, essential for resilient skin.

What do Polynucleotides do?

When Polynucleotides are injected into the skin, they work by stimulating the body's natural repair mechanisms, repairing damaged cells, boosting collagen and elastin production to help reduce fine lines and wrinkles and also initiating the body's own fibroblast production for improved skin resilience. They possess anti-inflammatory properties, so can reduce redness and swelling, making them useful for treating acne scars and rosacea. Polynucleotides also have anti-free radical actions, which helps to create healthier, thicker skin, reduced inflammation and a more hydrated skin appearance.

Where are Polynucleotides used?

Polynucleotides can be effectively used for various facial areas including under the eyes, neck, and even the jawline and cheekbones. Currently, the most sought-after application tends to be the under-eye area. The introduction of polynucleotides for under-eye treatment is revolutionising cosmetic procedures, particularly for patients who are concerned about their under-eye area, in whom tear-trough hyaluronic acid filler treatments are not appropriate.

Are Polynucleotides safe?

Polynucleotides are created from salmon or trout DNA using a proprietary process. There is an extraction and purification process which ensures the safety and compatibility of the product for use in human skin. Polynucleotides have undergone extensive research in humans to confirm their safety.

What is the process for receiving treatment?

The first step is to book your no obligation consultation. This will take place at a time convenient to you with Dr Shyna herself. At the consultation, Dr Shyna will undertake a comprehensive 30 minute assessment to identify your needs and to determine if the treatment is suitable for you and safe for you to receive. Following this assessment, Dr Shyna will give her recommendations as to what treatments may benefit you, including other treatments available. Prior to any treatments being carried out, the procedures and their risks and costs will be clearly explained. At this point, Dr Shyna recommends that you take a "cooling off" period of 48 hours to make sure you are happy to proceed. However, if, for your own convenience, you would prefer to proceed directly, the treatments can be carried out after the consultation, subject to your consent and appointment availability.. As part of the treatment process, before and after photographs will be taken following your consent. These photographs are strictly confidential, as are the rest of your records. After the treatment, you will given full post-procedure aftercare information.

Frequently asked Questions

Are there any reasons why I cannot have Polynucleotides?

As with any medical treatment, there are some situations or conditions which mean someone is not able to receive the treatment for safety reasons. Some contraindications are absolute, meaning the treatment is not suitable for anyone with those conditions. Treatment with Polynucleotides is absolutely contraindicated in vegans and vegetarians, those with fish allergy and in the following conditions: Body Dysmorphic syndrome, pregnancy or breast feeding, skin infection at the proposed treatment site, known allergy to product and age < 18 years.

There are also some relative contraindications. These are conditions that mean the treatment may not be suitable, but this depends on individual circumstances. For polynucleotides, relative contraindications include a tendency to excessive scarring, bleeding disorders, autoimmune disease, immunosuppression, and certain medications. Please be assured that Dr Shyna will fully assess the presence of any contraindications during her comprehensive assessment with you and will ensure your safety is maintained at times.

Are there any side effects of Polynucleotides?

As with any medical treatment, there are always potential side effects and complications. When Polynucleotide injections are administered by appropriately trained practitioners, the risks of side effects are reduced. There are some common side effects of Polynucleotides such as redness, pain, bruising or swelling at or around the injection site. These are usually mild and will usually settle within 24-48 hours, but this can vary in individual cases and may take a few days. As part of her comprehensive assessment and consent process, Dr Shyna will ensure that you are fully informed about all potential side effects before administering the treatment. You will also be given full aftercare advice and contact details if you have any concerns after the treatment.

What is the difference between Polynucleotides and skin boosters?

Skin boosters contain hyaluronic acid which aims to improve skin hydration and volume. Polynucleotides contain DNA which aim to create regeneration by actively signalling cells to produce collagen and elastin.

Are Polynucleotides or tear trough fillers best for under eye treatment?

Both are suitable treatments for the under eye area and which to use depends on the problem which needs addressing. If the concern is only hollowing under the eyes and there is no puffiness under the eyes ("eye bags") then tear trough fillers are the best treatment to restore volume under the eyes.

If the concern is fine lines and wrinkles, crepey skin or dark circles under the eye or if there is puffiness under the eye ("eye bags"), then Polynucleotide injections under the eye are the best option to improve the appearance of this area.
